On this pageMatrixyl Key Facts
Matrixyl (INCI name palmitoyl pentapeptide-4) is a synthetic lipopeptide: the pentapeptide Lys-Thr-Thr-Lys-Ser (KTTKS) with a palmitic acid chain on its N-terminus. KTTKS is a fragment of the C-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen. This page is a short laboratory reference: identifiers, characterization and storage. It is supplied for laboratory research use only and does not report study outcomes.

What Is Matrixyl?
Matrixyl is a lipopeptide studied in cosmetic-science research. Its peptide portion, KTTKS, is a short sequence found within the propeptide region of type I procollagen. On its own, KTTKS is water-soluble and does not cross lipid membranes easily; attaching a palmitic acid chain makes the molecule more lipophilic, which is why the palmitoylated form (Pal-KTTKS) is the one commonly used. It belongs to the group of matrikine-derived peptides studied in that field.
Characterization and Quality Documentation
NuRev lots are tested by independent third-party laboratories. A useful Certificate of Analysis for a research peptide shows:
- Identity by mass spectrometry, matched to the expected molecular weight (about 802 Da)
- Purity by HPLC, with the chromatogram
- A lot number identical to the one printed on the vial
- The name of the testing laboratory and the test date
Each NuRev vial label carries a QR code that opens the matching lot’s documents. All published reports are in the certificate of analysis library; see how to read a peptide COA for what each section means.
Storage and Handling of Lyophilized Matrixyl
As a lipopeptide, Matrixyl is more lipophilic than a plain peptide, which affects how it dissolves. General practice for lyophilized peptides applies:
- Store the sealed vial at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Short-term storage at 2–8 °C is acceptable.
- Let the vial reach room temperature before opening, to avoid condensation.
- The palmitoyl chain lowers water solubility; a co-solvent may be needed for reconstitution. Aliquot the solution and avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
More detail is in our peptide storage guide. NuRev supplies Matrixyl 10 mg for laboratory research use only.
